HOW I EXPRESS MYSELF
I think that everyone should find a creative outlet. Doesn’t matter if you are a financial Director, Managing Director, Marketing Director or climbing up the ladder.
Everyone.
Why? Because expressing yourself opens up your right brain; which will make you apply the emotional values you gain to the left-brain, the functional side, which you mostly use between
9 to 5.
Apply what you gain from your creative expression and see how much better you do your job.
Most people say, “I’m not creative”. But everybody is creative.
You are creative when you put your clothes on in the morning, when you comb your hair, when you decide what car your going to buy, what drink you’re going to drink. It’s all part of our creative persona.
It’s about discipline and going where we haven’t gone before. Because the more things we see, the more things we taste, the more things we try, and the more accurate we are in connecting with people and making our life better.
I express myself through taking photographs. Why? Because it teaches me about design, balance and about emotional values.
I’m doing a series of Black and White photographs of Koppies.
My reasons are not just because Koppies are beautiful but also because they are so much part of our South African heritage.
A lot of them are granite and sadly, they’re being cut-up for kitchen tops, which gives me another reason. I have watched magnificent boulders the size of a rugby pitch being reduced to a virtual molehill surrounded by carnage. It’s a record of something that that will not exist one day.

I’m also doing a series on the behavioral habits of the people I know, titled ‘My Friends’.
They are a quirky look at their personality. And reflect something that we both share.
